Free visits for the prevention of thyroid cancer are back in Foligno

For the fourth consecutive year, and a few months after the last edition, the days dedicated to cancer prevention are back in Foligno. This initiative is sponsored by the Municipality of Foligno that the Valter Baldaccini Foundation and is carried out thanks to a consolidated and continuous collaboration with the Umbria delegation of the ANT Foundation, the organization that deals with home care for cancer patients and prevention projects spread throughout the country.

The days dedicated to cancer prevention: May 21, 22 and 23

The appointment with prevention is set for Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday (May 21st – 23rd) when one of the ANT mobile clinics, with specialist doctors on board, will be present in Piazza San Domenico in Foligno. During these days, 72 thyroid ultrasounds will be offered with the aim of raising awareness among citizens on the importance of early diagnosis of thyroid cancer.

“To underline our commitment to the community, this year we asked the Umbrian delegation of the ANT Foundation to increase the number of free visits to make available to the community – commented Beatrice Baldaccini, President of the Valter Baldaccini Foundation. The numbers tell us that access to preventive screening is declining, which is why we believe that providing opportunities for easily accessible visits to everyone is an important gesture of awareness and care”.

Thyroid alterations in Umbria: a widespread problem

It is estimated that in Umbria 1 in 15 people is affected by some form of clinically significant thyroid alteration in the context of hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, or thyroid nodules. This is due, among other causes, to the lack of iodine in the water and subsoil of our region.

Through these ultrasounds it will be possible to identify and locate non-palpable nodules and this will allow us to intervene, if necessary, with further investigations to delve deeper into the different situations.

How to book your free specialist visit

To make the visit free of charge you must register on the ANT Foundation portal. Bookings will open on Monday 12 May 2025, at 10 am. Visits are available until all places are filled.
