Aldo and Ibraim: two work grants to start a new life

The Valter Baldaccini Foundation’s socio-work inclusion projects were designed to offer opportunities for redemption and rediscovered dignity for women and men who have various problems: we believe they can have access to a better life through work.

Family and work: a project dedicated to job placements in Umbria

The Valter Baldaccini Foundation carries out the “Family and work” project in the Umbrian territory with the aim of creating work grants, or job opportunities that can also become stable contracts. Active since 2018, in collaboration with various associations and entities connected to Caritas Umbria, it has helped create jobs for 30 people. Over the years we have collected and told many stories of rebirth, including those of Aldo and Ibraim, two men marked by addiction who are now on the path to a new life.

Aldo's story

Aldo is just over 50 years old and has a complicated story. Since he was young, he has had addiction problems that lead him to have difficult experiences in the community, until he landed, five years ago, in the Sanfatucchio (PG) facility, managed by the Caritas Umbria Delegation and the La Cordata association. Since then, even if there have been moments of difficulty and discouragement, his progress has been constant and today Aldo is ready for a new life. Aldo has in fact begun his journey towards autonomy and the work grant, activated thanks to the support of the Valter Baldaccini Foundation, will allow him to truly have a new beginning. In fact, in the next seven months, Aldo will receive a salary for the work he does within the community and will be able to put aside these first savings to build his new life. Aldo today is the facility's jack-of-all-trades, he likes to keep busy, be among people, drive, and this has made him the point of reference for all the needs of the daily life of this large house.

Ibraim's story

Ibraim is 31 years old and arrived in Italy from Ghana, when he was still a minor, after a long and dangerous journey. He has always worked in agriculture, where he did not have many positive experiences, but he never gave up because his goal was important: to send all his earnings to his mother and younger siblings, who could only count on him. The problems with addiction began in 2018, when he lost his job, lost his home, and began an extremely complicated period. Ibraim encountered the Umbria Caritas Delegation and the La Cordata association, in February 2022. After a few weeks he was welcomed and from that moment, little by little his life improved. He began his rehabilitation process, three days a week he attended Italian lessons, learned to read, write, and do calculations. Ibraim likes being outdoors. He learned to carry out horticulture, raising farm animals, pruning olive trees and gardening professionally. The activation of this job grant will allow him to transform what he likes most into a job. For him it is not yet time to think about complete autonomy, but this is certainly an important step towards a new life.

Aldo and Ibraim's job grants were made possible thanks to the important donations of UMBRAGROUP collaborators, collected during last year's company Christmas party.
