Arben and Fatime: two Siblings with an unbreakable bond

The reality of life for a child suffering from epilepsy and cognitive impairment in Kosovo is not easy. Not because of the difficulties associated with this condition, but above all because Kosovo lacks all the care and assistance systems we are accustomed to.

For Arben, it's more difficult to understand and cope with reality. He and his younger sister, Fatime, grew up in an environment lacking security, guidance, and protection. His father has severe intellectual disability and a degenerative disease, and his mother, at a very young age, began using substances and increasingly distanced herself from her children, eventually abandoning them.

Fatime and Arben's Encounter with the Leskoc Home

When Arben and Fatime first met the staff at the Leskoc Home, they were living in a very delicate situation. Arben was withdrawn, often agitated, and had difficulty managing his emotions and relationships with other children. Fatime, on the other hand, seemed crystal clear: she kept everything under control, observed everything, and always tried to protect her brother, as if she were his mother rather than a child.

The change at the Leskoc Home: a new hope for Arben and Fatime

At first, Arben and Fatime only attended the Home during the day. There, they found a hot shower, clean clothes, a hot meal, and lots of affection. Arben began a psychomotor program and some sports activities that helped him structure his day, channel his energy, and experience small successes. Riding his bike, shooting basketball, completing a game: every achievement restored his confidence.

Fatime, meanwhile, has blossomed. She learned Italian very quickly, is doing well in school, displays strong emotional intelligence, and is incredibly gentle with the little ones. At the Home, she is often the first to run to a crying child, to hug or console them. Their bond is incredibly strong: Arben looks to Fatime as his anchor, and she continues to be by his side, slowly learning to be a child, not just a "little mom."

Support Arben and Fatime's future: a gift that lasts forever

Today, the Leskoc Home is the place where Arben and Fatime can feel welcomed, protected, and supported on a journey of growth that doesn't erase their pain, but transforms it.
This Christmas, you can walk with them. Support Fatime and Arben and all the boys and girls at the Leskoc Home with a donation. Donate now.
