With Families: the diary of the educator Cecilia

"I go into the Andrei family home. Rosa, 8 months old, is on the high chair and Marco, 7 years old, is doing his homework, he tells me that today he will help his mother with his little sister. I look at the smiling mother and I think about how many things have changed in six months".

Here is the story of Cecilia, one of educator working the “With Families” project goes weekly to the home of eight families in difficulty in the area.

"The first day Rosa was crying, and Marco was having a tantrum. The mother told me the situation: she turned to the counseling center because she needed help in managing the change in her son after Rosa was born. Marco continually quarreled with his sister, he didn't listen to his parents, he didn't want to go to school. Rosa was always nervous and agitated and her parents were worried and tense. We decided to involve Marco more and more in the relationship with the little sister. Then, he started teaching her new games, reading small stories, doing activities together.
Brazelton's Touchpoints principles gave me the tools to see this initial disorganization as an opportunity. I helped the mother to see Rosa's changes, to observe her, to understand her needs and inclinations, to discover the child's resources. And in doing so, she discovered she had it too. Rosa is calmer, reassured by the affection and serene presence of the whole family.
Now, after six months Marco is helping his little sister to eat. Rosa is hypnotized by the voice and hands of her big brother. The family is getting back on its feet”.

We will talk about the project “With Families” on Saturday, November 23rd, at the Foligno Library, during a conference: "WITH FAMILIES: Brazelton's Touchpoints approach to guarantee everyone the best possible start".

The seats available for the conference are sold out, but if you want to stay updated on the next initiatives related to this project, leave us your e-mail address.
